As of Bitcoin block 932110 (mined in January 2026), ChapSmart now supports direct on-chain Bitcoin payments in addition to Lightning. Users can send BTC to on-chain addresses for remittances in Tanzania — providing greater flexibility for larger transactions or when Lightning liquidity is limited. This hybrid approach (Lightning + on-chain) makes ChapSmart even more versatile while maintaining full non-custodial control.

In late 2025, ChapSmart completed the migration from Alby to a self-hosted phoenixd node. This move eliminated custodians, giving full non-custodial control over all Lightning payments and funds. All transactions are now direct, private, and truly peer-to-peer.

WebLN support was implemented across all payment pages (remittances, airtime, donations). Users with compatible wallets (Alby, Zeus, etc.) can now pay Lightning invoices with one click — faster and more seamless experience.

In October 2025, we introduced Bitcoin-powered airtime top-ups for Tanzanian mobile networks. Users can now buy airtime directly with Lightning — expanding ChapSmart beyond remittances.
